Rainbows, needles & Hot Wheels

 Oct 6

Victory! Finally back at winning… one game.

Rainy day here in the BC desert.

Oct 7

Bloodwork day - clinic first for requisition…then lab, then wait…

Linda hung out at the trailer and read and McGuyver’d securing doors and drawers in the trailer.

Pat Lake got a nice Rainbow Trout in first 15 minutes. 13-14 inches. Released him back to the lake.

Oct 8

In to Ashcroft to tour and visit Desert Hills market.

Crop circles here refer to the length of the mobile irrigation arc as it swings around on the field.

No more cribbage victory…sigh.

Bloodwork results back, nearing normal.

Saw a cool Ghost Town, closed (go figure). Then followed “Deadman Creek” up the valley a few miles…

Great signs asking us not to run over the rattlesnakes, as they’re endangered!

Oct 9

Junction Coffee House for best coffee, best atmosphere and best service. Fun chats with the “regulars”.

Revisit Ashcroft for groceries.

Delicious Tacos at Desert Hills ranch Taco stand. I had Pork, Linda had Shrimp. All kinds of toppings!

Oct 10

Moving day. Junction Coffee House to go!

Juniper Beach to Squamish (7 hours for 295km)

Cruise control ain’t worth it in the mountains. Sea to Sky @ 100km/hr??????

I DON’T THINK SO…EVER. Up, down, twist, turn, bend, bounce, and the road slumps to the outside of the turn, to the great abyss (Fraser River)…uh uh, ain’t doing it!

Oh, and the Porta-Potti tipped over! No leakage. Yay!

Bad brake fade and smoke on the last switchback down into Pemberton. 1/2 hour to cool enough to proceed.

We found my Creek! I now have a Pass AND a Creek!

Home, where is it? Funny when people ask that. It’s just wherever we happen to be camped at the time. And this is our homestead for the next two weeks.

Oct 11

Showers! Two weeks of bird baths, and finally hot running water with suds! Scrub scrub scrub! Ahhh…

Coffee at Smoke Bluff coffee house.

On our way to the local tackle shop we saw our first Grizzly Bear. A youngster that took off as we looked for parking.

Coop’s bait ‘n tackle set me up with some lightweight Salmon leaders, tippets and flies.

Linda checked out Shannon Falls, DIRECTLY across the hwy from our campground. We can see it from our site! But FIRST she found…

Mushrooms

Oct 12

Backup trailer camera also functions as a nighttime security camera… picking up insect motion!

Breakfast and two more Bears walk past our Restaurant.

Browsing around Squamish Farmers Market. Focaccia, Hummus, Tapenade and Mustard Pickles with Lingonberry and Elderberry Meade to wash it down. Murals!

Then off to The Tall Tree bakery for a baguette.

Skunked at cribbage.

Then Thanksgiving dinner toasted with Meade!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We’re on our way…!

Welcome to our stories… Retired life on the road. We did three nights at Lake Adam, MB. We had an entire bay to ourselves! Now we’re at Moose Mountain, SK, for one night. So far the roads have been great, and the trailer clutter reduced. This is our home for the next six months. We went Bananas in Melita MB. Crossing the border!

The Peanut Butter is in the sink…

Early A&W coffee in Carlisle SK. They only had cream, so… out to the trailer for milk! Rich Hopps was right! A&W coffee IS really smooth. Then off to Big Muddy!   Badlands and Castle Butte  Linda got to check Big Muddy off her map! And after two years Linda still can’t always close the truck door (door seal vs air pressure). For what it’s worth sorting has found a place.

Peanut Butter now in recycling…

Organization takes time! Peanut Butter now moved to recycling  Good mileage yesterday. Sask Parks washroom have their own code to text for supplies etc. Maple leaf bakery hot dog knots and cinnamon buns… yum! It wasn’t a fire at Piapot, it was a “Salt Tornado “ At least four herds of Pronghorn antelope. 36’Celsius Medicine Hat. Noooo…!
